Here are some interesting details about reggae artist Ashes. Growing up in Jamaica influenced him from an early age.

As a boy in Kingston in the 70s, Ashes snuck into outdoor dancehalls to see some of reggae's finest original artists in their prime. This moved him from a young age to do the same...

Originally from Kingston Jamaica, Ashes moved to East Orange, New Jersey in his teens.  As a child in Kingston, he was neighbors with famous reggae dancehall artist, Lone Ranger. In 1978 at 12 years old, Ashes was given the microphone for the first time, by Lone Ranger on his sound system – Soul to Soul. From then on, he knew what he wanted to do. Along with Lone Ranger, some of his other mentors are General Echo, Johnny Ringo, Welton Irei, Brigadier Jerry, and Nigga Charlie. Ashes is from the golden age of dancehall artists and says,” I make my songs authentic – you have to feel the music.” He is best known for performing on sound-systems like Sound Express, Silverado, Papa Moke, and Symphony.

Ashes has his own established recording label – Torpedo Records. He is also a music producer and has produced artists such as Merciless, Bling Dog, Maka Diamond, Mr. Easy, Sugar Minott, Determined, Don Youth, and Captain Barkey.

To wrap it up, reggae man Ashes continues to evolve as time goes by. He is highly regarded in the music industry. His lyrics and beats are full of the right kind of vibe for any listeners to grab ahold of. As Ashes puts it, “I do it because I love it, not for the money.” Isn’t music always better from artists like this?!

He specializes in the dancehall style as well as the traditional, “foundational” beat, as Ashes puts it. He’s an artist who knows how to cleverly blend the two styles together like no-one else. Ashes is also known for his “clean” style – he prides himself on saying that anyone can play it. He says, ”It’s not just about girls shakin’ their butts.” 

Ashes’ lyrics are totally reality-based and are drawn from his personal, life experiences. He says, “I wouldn’t be able to write it if I didn’t go through it first myself. ” Some of his songs even include references from the bible that can be applied to everyday situations. An example would be a sentence from one of his singles called Remember God which says “If you’re walkin’ in darkness, you have to turn on the light.”

He currently has some fantastic singles out, not to mention some must-have albums.  All are available on iTunes, eMusic, Google Play, Amazon, Spotify and many other digital music stores out there. His future plans include creating a cool compilation of many of his songs spanning back over the years – up through recent times.  He’s also joining together with some other well-known reggae artists on his up and coming compilation called “The SWAT.” Look out!
